NRM Day: Tooro Leaders Slam Museveni for Dropping Balya

Drama ensued at the NRM 31st victory celebrations in Kabarole district as district leaders and top NRM cadres attacked President Yoweri Museveni the dropping of Brig. Gen. Ronnie Balya Ateenyi.

Brig. Ronnie Balya was on Tuesday relieved of his duties as Director General Internal Security Organization (ISO) and replaced with Rtd. Maj. Kaka. He has since been deployed as Uganda’s Ambassador to neighboring South Sudan.

Reflecting on the day’s theme, the district LC5 chairperson Mr. Richard Rwabuhinga said that Tororo’s share on the “national cake” was worrying fading away, following the sacking of Brig. Balya, Col. Kagoro from UPDF legal team, Brig. Charles Bakahumura from CMI and Tooro RDCs that were demoted.

He said that as Tooro people, they are disappointed by President Museveni over his continued demotion of Tooro people serving in government.

The chairman said they do not dispute the president as the appointing authority, but as the Tooro community they had to express their dismay .

Rwabuhinga noted that late Brig. Nobel Mayombo was powerful and influential in government but government has never produced a report on his death or fulfilled its promise of constructing a Memorial School in his honor.

Other local leaders also pitched in to show their dismay.

Grace Businge a senior NRM mobilizer at the event said as Tooro, they were disappointed because they fought for NRM but they have not benefited from the party.

Rusoke Bunage another NRM cadre said the sacked officials have been the a link between Tooro and President Museveni through which the Kingdom received support from government.

Kabarole Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Asiimwe Stephen however, said that they have to cerebrate despite the challenges.
