Toro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguuru Rukiidi IV is expected to flag off the International Malaria Run as Uganda joins the rest of the World to commemorate the International Malaria Day slated for Tuesday 25th April, there 2017.

The National celebrations will be held in Kabarole at Boma Grounds, dosage Fort Portal.

The theme of the commemoration is: End Malaria for Good, Child Up Against Malaria and the Chief Guest will be the Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng.

Dr. Richard Mugahi, the District Health Officer Kabarole reveals that among the activities lined up to commemorate the Malaria Day include the Malaria Run, medical camps and a football match between the media, bodaboda riders and the Kabarole district staff and councillors.

He said, “On Saturday 22nd, we will have a malaria run that will be flagged by Tooro King his majesty King Oyo”.

“We’re expecting about 500 people including school children to participate in the 3km malaria marathon that starts from Mucwa kingdom headquarters via Malibo road-Kisenyi to Boma ground,” He added.

Dr. Mugahi says the malaria marathon and other activities are intended to create public awareness of the disease that has claimed more lives than any other in the country.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) over one million people die from malaria each year, mostly children under five years of age, with 90 per cent of malaria cases occurring in Sub Saharan Africa.
